"UnSeen Evidence ...a descry of faith"
an exhibition of paintings
by Karen Randolph

Artist’s Statement

"Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. This is what the ancients were commended for. By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God's command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible." – Hebrews 11:1-3 (The Message) By an act of faith Abel, by an act of faith Enoch, by an act of faith Barrak, by an act of faith Abraham, by an act of faith Rahab…

What a dichotomy of thought! As one tries to get ones mind around, seeing the unseen the tangibility of having evidence of things not seen, or even the tangibility of the thought—a smile appears and the mind reels with the juxtaposition of fact over fiction, visible over invisible, image over non-image, God over us. WOW! … the knees bend and the heart yields…and one finds oneself in God’s presence.

I know in my heart that there is a God. My finite mind finds it difficult to imagine how this existence I enjoy in this universe might have created itself, in its intricacies and harmonious balance. Logic compels me to believe in the creator, and the sunrise, a ladybug, and microbial beings cause me to believe in the depths of my being that there is a creator. This emptiness in the center of my being that longs to love and to be loved, to be whole, to be known--cries out of my human self and tries to overcome. Through years of doing it all myself, crying for something outside myself, I have found that the only thing that fills that emptiness is God—His love, His heart, His will, and yes, His breath and spirit in me.

The thought of believing in something that one cannot see is the impetus for this descry of faith and the result is this series of paintings. The style is representational abstract using color, texture, and images to interact with the viewer, thus causing one to pause, to think, to reflect, and to act on this subject of faith.

This is a series of paintings and sketches in acrylic on canvas and board based on that theme from chapter eleven in the book of Hebrews in the word of God.

… because I believe in God … by an act of faith this exhibit came into existence!
